Models after Sculpture

Herbert Foundation kindly invites you on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 2 p.m for a Talk by Stefaan Vervoort on the work of Dan Graham.

In 1978 American artist-writer Dan Graham (°1942) devised a set of artworks that subsequently were exhibited as architectural maquettes, including Alteration to a Suburban House, Clinic for a Suburban Site and Video Projection Outside Home.

In this lecture the relation between architecture and the visual arts in the 1960s and 1970s is explored. By focusing on Dan Graham’s scale models, architecture photography and early texts on Minimal Art, the fascination of the artist with architecture is elaborated.

Stefaan Vervoort is a PhD candidate at the Department of Architecture & Urban Planning, Ghent University. His research focuses on the exchange between art and architecture in the postwar era, more specifically on scale models in art of the 1980s.
